It seems many publishers have been told by the company that in the near-future, they should be submitting their books to Amazon in EPUB format and not exclusively MOBI.
這真的是挺令人shock的消息，亞馬遜終於點頭同意讓ePUb格式進入它的閱讀器裡了！
They also devised applications for major platforms such as Android, iOS, PC, Blackberry, and Windows Phone 7 for reading their books. This insured that if you had purchased a Amazon Kindle e-reader or ebooks from their store, you were locked into the Amazon ecosystem.
我們可以知道過去的亞馬遜擁有屬於自己的平台，一但您購買了點火（Kindle），那您就只能放近他所提供的電子書格式，當然在這消息之前，是不可能將ePub放進點火（Kindle）的。
到這裡，就讓我們先瞭解最新點火閱讀器（Kindle 3）的一些資訊補充，想知道其他Kindle機型的需自Amazon.com的Help查詢。（稍看了Kindle 1，只有些許不一樣，應該不會差太多，故將介紹近款的資訊。）
首先，我們要先瞭解接受哪些格式：
- Documents：.azw、.pdf、.txt、.mobi、.prc
- Music：.mp3
- Audible：.aa
因為它的生態非常封閉，所以您如果想要看或收藏其他格式的數位內容，如：.doc(x)、.html、.rtf、.jpg、.gif、.png、.bmp進入點火（Kindle），那就必須把這些格式寄給你的id@kindle.com轉檔成Kindle閱讀器所能辨識的格式，之後將透過3G直接傳進您的Kindle裡，但這傳輸費需要依檔案大小收費（在美國境內是US$15 cents per MB，而境外是US$99 cents per MB。）；另外，您如果不想花任何費用，那可寄到你的id@free.kindle.com轉檔，之後可透過Wi-Fi或從PC端之USB傳輸線自行取得即可。（在寄之前，記得先將這些格式轉成壓縮檔，並盡量不要超過5MB或是pdf檔，否則會需較長的時間。）

從這張圖也可以看出ePub與AZW和MOBI的相似處，也呼應原文提到AZW和MOBI是基於ePub格式。

目前ePub格式已是業界所推廣且公認主流的電子書格式了，從這新聞可以瞭解到電子書巨頭亞馬遜不得不因應現在的趨勢，也不再堅持自家封閉格式的策略，這對過去的亞馬遜而言，根本是不可能發生的事。可見ePub的地位可以說在這時後達到了巔峰，過去有人提到ePub可能將會是過渡的格式，但我想近年來會比較難以動搖。
基於ePub的重要性，我們可以從IDPF官網的會員名單裡，看看現在有多少巨頭及各企業、聯盟在支持ePub格式，光台灣就有：

- 將掌握HTML協定，就我們所知ePub是基於HTML file；這也是為什麼他們要嘗試將Kindle 3及DXG擁有瀏覽器，此瀏覽器基於webkit base(同Google Chrome及Apple Safari)，跟Kindle 2比起來可是上相多了。
另外，有個疑問想請教大家的就是：那早期的Kindle是不是也可以放進epub？
